Military Mail Campaign Has Begun

Published Wednesday, August 27, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

This year's `Military Mail' campaign is now underway.

After morale mail from every part of the U.S. is throughly mixed, it is then separated into packages of varying size and mailed to more than 1,000 bases, units, hospitals and morale agencies - such as some of the local affiliates of United Service Organizations (USO) and the Armed Services YMCA - all across the U.S. and around the world. The packages of mail range from 25 or 30 pieces for small units to several thousand for an entire base or large ship.

In this way, each individual's cards and letters are sent far and wide, and each of the 1,000-plus packages contains mail from all over the U.S. - accomplished without use of taxpayer funds.

Typical of the response the mail brings was this from a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy: "Thank you so much for your thoughtfullness. We anxiously look forward to receiving more mail in the future."

Sunshine 4-H Club of Arkadelphia, which joined thousands of other Americans from coast to coast, was part of the effort put forth.

Military Mail is an exciting project for individuals, families, schools, colleges, churches and any kind of groups.

To learn how to help boost the morale of young service men and women at more than 1,000 places, send a first-class postage stamp - not a self-addressed, stamped envelope, just the stamp - along with your name and address for a copy of this year's `Military Mail-Gram' to: Friends Of Our Troops, P.O. Box 308, Soldier, KY 41173-0308, and mention where this was read.
