It's fair time once again.

And, with the 61st Annual Nevada County Fair comes the annual talent show. This year's talent show will be coordinated by Chad Cornelius, owner of the Nevada County Ambulance Service.

The talent contest is open to all acts and individuals ages 10-20 who are legal residents of Nevada County. Under the state rules, those participating in the contest cannot now, nor ever have been married or have children.

Participants will be competing in five categories: vocal solo, vocal group, instrumental solo, instrumental vocal, dance solo and dance group and, finally, variety.

One overall winner will be selected from these groups, with a first runner up also being tabbed. The winner will take home $100 in cash, while the runner up will earn $25.

The overall winner will represent Nevada County in the Southwest Arkansas District Livestock Show and Rodeo in Hope, and earns an automatic berth in the Arkansas State Fair talent show Oct. 13-18.

Should the Nevada County winner also capture the Southwest Arkansas District contest, they will go to the state fair representing the district. This means the runner up from the Nevada County Fair will represent the county at the state event.

Cornelius said the acts will be limited to three minutes maximum. The acts, he said, will be judged on talent, appearance, preparedness and entertainment value. In the event of a tie, the highest score in the talent portion will be used as a tiebreaker.

Those involved in the talent show need to be on hand at the fairgrounds for rehearsal from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Entry fee for the talent show is $10 per act.

Cornelius said the purpose of the contest is to help discover, develop and encourage local talent.
