Ouachita Baptist University has announced its' 1999 Tiger Football Schedule for the last season in the NCAA Division II-Lone Star Conference. The OBU Tigers will be joining the NCAA Division II-Gulf South Conference next season.

The first game will be the "Battle of the Ravine," a traditional city rivalry with Henderson State University. September 4, the game will start at 7:00 p.m.

OBU is selling a ticket book for the reserve seats. The book will cost $15 and get you into five home games for less, including Parents Day and Homcoming. For more information or to purchase a book and/or parking passes for the 1999 home games at Ouachita, persons may contact OBU Athletic Director David Sharp's office by writing P.O. Box 3788, Arkadelphia, AR 71998-0001 or call (870)245-5181.

Head football coach at OBU Todd Knight informed the public this week that the Tigers would be without one of their starting quarterbacks for this season.

Brandon Johnsons' sophomore season will be spent in his home town of Waco, Texas playing baseball and attending Baylor University.

Knight said the first string quarterback position is now in the hands of 5-10, 185-lb. sophomore transfer Cary Wheaton who came to OBU last spring from Southern Arkansas University. Weaton played for the Arkadelphia Badgers in high school, where his father, Ken, was a coach before moving.

On the depth chart, freshman Samah Kargbo, a 5-11, 170-lb. quarterback from Mesquite, Texas will be Wheaton's back-up.

Johnson's departure adds to the loss of leading receiver Ricky Rogers, a junior from Lake, MS, who went down in practice last spring with an anterior cruciate ligament tear that is expected to take him out of football for the entire season.

OBU will have the largest contingent of athletes arriving in recent years August 10, when 80 students report to the Blackmon-Benson Fieldhouse.
