Football Season Begins; Wolves To Host Ashdown

Published Wednesday, September 3, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

After a month of grueling practice and scrimmages, the Curley Wolves will kick off the football season Friday night at the PHS stadium.

The Wolves will host Class AAA Ashdown at 7:30.

Last year the Wolves trounced the Panthers 27-12, scoring in all four quarters. Quarterback Al Johnston ran for 91 yards, scored one TD and passed for two more at Ashdown.

The big victory over the 7AAA Southwest Conference foe was the beginning of an outstanding season for the Wolves. The only loss suffered by the Wolves during the regular season was against Nashville. Prescott lost to Osceola in the semi-finals of the state play-offs, killing their chances of getting revenge against the Scrappers.

Next week the Wolves will travel to Hope to meet another 7AAA Southwest Conference foe, the Bobcats.
