Whoa!

Football season hasn't even officially started and it's already time for the 61st Annual Nevada County Fair.

The fair will be held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds Sept. 16-20, with plenty of activities for everyone to be involved in.

Anyone interested in participating in the arts, crafts, clothing, baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops and furniture competitions should bring their entries to the fairgrounds Sept. 14 between 1:30-4 p.m. I n addition, the buildings will be open until 4 o'clock Sept. 14 so booths can be erected.

From 8:30-10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, entries in the aforementioned categories can still be made. Judging will be done at 12:30 p.m. for the home economics sections, fall gardens, field crops, Extension Family and Community Education Clubs along with the 4- H and school booths. Once the judging has been completed, the exhibition buildings will be closed.

Tuesday sees the flower show exhibits being entered from 7-9 a.m., with judging starting at 9 a.m. Livestock entries will be from noon until 5 p.m. for cattle, swine, sheep, rabbits, goats and the 4-H poultry chain.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, the exhibit buildings open at 5 p.m., which is the same time as the 4-H premium livestock sale.

The carnival and midway will be open from 6-10 p.m., while the beauty contests take place inside at 6 o'clock. These beauties will be judged in infant (0-11 months), baby miss (12-23 months), tiny miss (2-3 years), petite miss (6-7 years), little miss (4- 5 years), tiny mister (12-23 months) and little mister (2-3 years).

Everything opens at 5 p.m. Friday, except for the carnival, which starts at 6 o'clock.

Saturday, Sept. 20, will see the second annual Nevada County Horse Show a.m.

Following the horse show, the exhibit buildings open at 5 p.m., with the carnival beginning again at 6 o'clock. The livestock will be released at 7 p.m.

All items need to be picked up between 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, and all commercial booths must be dismantled and removed by 4 o'clock as well.

Winners of the various events and contests will move on to the Southwest Arkansas Livestock Show and Rodeo in Hope. This event will be held Sept. 23-27.

The winners at the district contest will head to the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock in October.
