CLASSY MOMENTSPublished Wednesday, September 10, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesIf you heard loud cheering Thursday and did not know what was going on, we just had our first pep rally at GMS for the new school year. The students really get involved, showing their support of the team by cheering along with the leadership of the cheerleaders. It might also be a time for the students to get rid of that "extra energy," and believe me they have an abundant supply. Mrs. Green, a fifth grade teacher, is the junior high cheerleader sponsor. We really appreciate all of her time she has given to the squad, as their perofrmance Thursday was superior. Many of the students have adjusted to their schedules and are following the rules, making friends and enjoying the time spent with old friends. However, there are some who are still trying to adjust to being quiet in the hall while making class changes, and remembering not to slam their locker doors. We have confidence that they will soon catch on to the expected routine. While the seventh and eighth graders are making class changes, the fifth and sixth graders are in class. When the fifth and sixth graders change classes, the seventh and eighth graders are in class. So it is important that changes are as quiet as possible so that the classes will not be disturbed. The assignment planner books finally arrived with each student getting one. They are to write their assignments daily in the planner so parents of each student will be able to see what homework assignment has been made in each class. We ask that the parents sign the planner at the end of each week, as the teachers will be doing the same to let the parents know that the student is recording assignments. The planner is to be in the binders that students take to each class. This is the first year that we have required the binder and already can see that it is cutting down on attending class without paper, pencil and assignments, as well as greetings from detention hall. High expectations, committee of Coe, has brought joy, laughter, and unbelievable acknowledgement of pictures of the teachers of GMS displayed on the bulletin board in the hall. Some fount it very difficult to identify the teachers, as the pictures are from the past - or should I say from the good old days? We are working hard, staying busy, and extending an invitation to you to feel welcome to come for a visit. Thank you so very much for your support, interest and conceren while we are making those classy moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
