Jaycees Attend MeetingPublished Wednesday, September 10, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThe South Clark County Jaycees attended the first quarter boards, which was held in Little Rock August 15, 16 and 17. The South Clark County Jaycees were well represented. This is a new year for the chapter. The group was excited about receiving the first place ranking in best retention, top growth and best percentage chapter. Vice president Karen Harper of the local chapter ranked third in the state and invididual development. Vice president Bernard Hatley, also a South Clark County Jaycee, ranked sixth for the first quarter. The chapter ranked ninth. Kenneth Harper, president of the local chapter, ranked 10th in the state. The chapter plans to improve as they go along during the next quarter with individual training and seminars. They have some events that are planned in the future. September 20 at 10:00 a.m. they will be hosting Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Gus Brown Field. This competition is for boys and girls ages 8-15. For more information about Punt, Pass and Kick, contact coach John Ware at 353-4040 or at the high school. A concert will be held to benefit a 13-year-old girl who is going through cancer treatments. The concert will be held September 27 at 5:00 p.m. at Lowe Field in Gurdon. Preceding the concernt at 12:00 noon, basketball games will be held at the same location.
