A clean-up day has been scheduled in Gurdon for Saturday, Sept. 20.

According to Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith, volunteers are needed to help pick up garbage along the city streets on this day.

He said once this has been done, a lunch for the volunteers will be served at the city park.

Volunteers will meet at the park at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20, where they will be issued assignments and garbage bags. The day is slated to end at 1:30 p.m. at the park.

Smith asks all civic groups, organizations and church groups to pitch in and help clean the city up in preparation for the upcoming Forest Festival in October.

"We're going to try and make an event out of it," Smith said. "It will be good for children to get involved, but we need cooks, grills, servers and volunteers to help pick up the trash."

A second clean up day will be held Saturday, Sept. 27. On this day, Smith said, the city will pick up all large items at curbside.

He said residents who have items to be taken away need to call city hall at 353-2514 during normal business hours.
