Tornado sirens in Gurdon will be tested at noon every Wednesday, weather permitting.

Roy Lee Jr., and Cindy Gierth of Arkadelphia are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Rachel Anna Jean, on Monday, August 9, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

She weighed eight pounds and 9 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Gerald and Jean Reed of Salesville; Roy L. Gierth of Prescott; and Edna and Wayne Laird of Gurdon. Big sister, Ashley, welcomed her home.

The Gospel Chimes singing group will perform at First Church of God Saturday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Arkadelphia Christian School of First Church of the Nazarene will have a celebration and dedication of its new facility Saturday, August 21, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at 129 Malvern Road, Highway 67 in Caddo Valley.

The Diamond Valley Chapter American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting and volunteer recognition with a barbecue Tuesday, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia. To make reservations call 870-246-2682.

The second annual Diamond Valley Chapter American Red Cross bass tournament will be held Saturday, August 21, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Lake DeGray. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. at the DeGray spillway. Entry fees will be $50 for a two-man team.

Guaranteed prizes are $750 for first place, $500 for second place, $250 for third place and $250 for the biggest bass, $250. Other prizes will be awarded. Tournament director is Roger Riley. The parenting education grant recently awarded to the Hours of Joy Child Care, 501 East Main, will provide parenting classes once a week at no charge to parents. For a schedule, parents can call 353-4672 or 353-4329. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, with first and third week of each month meeting at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., second and third meeting at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will be in Gurdon on August 19 at the Gurdon Municipal building from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. New applicants are welcome. Call 353-2514 for an appointment or more information.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
