Deer Dog Festival Is September 19thPublished Wednesday, September 10, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe 10th annual Deer Dog Festival will get underway at noon Friday, September 19, at Village, east of Magnolia. Lunch will served that day to the men who have started bringing in their dogs. A barbecue supper will be held for the public Friday at 5:00. It will be served in a new air conditioned cafeteria. The menu includes barbecued beef, beans, potato salad, deserts and drinks. The price for this meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Saturday's activities begin at 6 a.m. with homemade biscuits, eggs and sausages. This will also be held in the cafeteria. There will be free blood pressure checks and first aid during the day. Those wanting to participate can `come blow their horn' at 10:15 during the horn blowing contest. There are four divisions: pee wee through 10 years old, 10 to 20 years, 21 years and older and then there's a contest for the women. A chicken and dressing lunch will be served at 11:00 in the cafeteria. A concession stand will be set up in the gym. An auction of the dogs and hunting related items will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. Participants may bring unloaded guns to be sold. There will be entertainment throughout the day. Crafters will be set up in the gym. The festival is sponsored by Village Community Center. Village is 10 miles east of Magnolia on Highway 98.
