Curley Wolves Drop Opener To Ashdown, 42-35 (cont)

erson fooled all defensive players. On a delay, he began a zig- zag run that evaded all Prescott's defensive players. He went in for the touchdown untouched. A two-point attempt had Muldrew running the ball in for a 28-28 tie with 4:35 left in the third period.

Prescott had to punt on its next series; Ashdown gave the ball back to Prescott on downs; and then Prescott did the same favor for Ashdown, giving the Panthers the ball at the Ashdown 37 in the fourth period.

The Panthers mainly ran ground plays, but a Prescott penalty and one completed pass moved the ball to the Prescott three in six completed plays. From that point, Henderson pitched back to Muldrew, who ran up the middle and hurdled over the defensive line for the TD. The PAT was missed, which left the score 34-28 in favor of the Panthers.

Prescott came back again, though. Woodley took the Ashdown kick-off near the 20 and returned it 19 yards.

From the 39, Johnston handed off to Van Hook, who was dragged down by the face mask. The penalty against the Panthers gave the Wolves a first down at the Ashdown 48.

Two passes from Johnston fell incomplete, then on third and 10, the Prescott quarterback hit Morrow around the 20, who went in for the touchdown. The point after try by Foundatin was good to give the Wolves a 35-34 lead with 5:05 left in the game.

Ashdown started its next scoring drive from the Panthers 27. The series was being slowed down, when Henderson went back to pass. Finding no receivers open and being pursured, he began to run. He was finally dragged down at the Prescott 15.

Muldrew gained 10 yards for the first down at the Prescott five, where Ricks took it in for the Panthers sixth TD. A pass from Henderson to Muldrew completed a two-point play that made the final score 42-35.

Prescott was finally stopped on its next drive eight yards away from a score. A series of penalties helped the Wolves on the drive.

First Prescott, on third and 12, was called for illegal procedure. The penalty was declined by Ashdown. On fourth and 12 a pass meant for Brad Harris was nullified because of a couple of penalties. Ashdown was called for defensive interference with Harris and Prescott was flagged for illegal procedure again. The penalties were off-setting. However, during the flag throwing, one of the Ashdown players said something that drew anothter flag. The Curley Wolves got 15 yards and a first down in Ashdown territory.

But it was over for the Wolves when Prescott was stopped with only five seconds left.

Prescott finished wit 20 first downs while Ashdown had 19.

The Wolves were penalized five times for 25 yards. Ashdown received eight penalties for 71 yards.

The only turnover was a fumble recover by the Wolves.

This week the Wolves will travel to Hope for its second opponent from the 7AAA Southwest Conference. Last year the Wolves won it, 25-16.

It would be nice to see just as many fans at Hope as there in Prescott Friday. One of the largest season-opening crowes ever was at the PHS stadium. Part of the reason could have been because of the coll fall-like weather. It could be the same Friday night.

Another crowd-pleasing event is at halftime. This week two good bands will be preparing for a full routine later in the season. Prescott's group looks to have a good program lined up for the year.
