TIM'S TIPS (cont)Published Wednesday, September 10, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayunen, do not put off seeding until the leaves begin to fall. Seed your tall fescue at a heavy rate of six to eight pounds per 1,000 square feet. Keep the area moist until the seeds germinate, which should occur in 10 to 14 days. During planting, apply a complete fertilizer, such as 13-13-13 or 17-17-17 at a rate of 8 to 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Fescue, being a cool season grass, will stay green all winter long. If you already have a fescue lawn, now is the time to overseed it. Fescue lawns should be overseeded every year to keep the stand thick, and especially after a hot, dry summer like the one we've had this year.
