Emmet Meeting HeldPublished Wednesday, September 17, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Emmet School District held a public meeting on September 8 in the school cafetorium to inform patrons of the school's goals, policies, programs and improvements. The district's goals for the 1997-98 school year are: 1. Improve the average reading score on the SAT-9 for students in grades K-12 to 50%. 2. To improve the high school proficiency examination scores in math where 50% of the 11th grade students will exceed the standard. 3. To increase the effective use of technology. The school programs being used to meet the first objective includes a readiness skills program in kindergarten and first grade, reading recovery program in first grade, a pull out reading lab for students in grades two through six, summer education program, and special education services. In order to meet the use of technology goal, the district has purchased several new computers. All buildings have been hooked up to the Internet and the school hopes to have all rooms acessible to the Internet in the near future. School improvements include improving completion rate for high school seniors and attendance rate for all students above the state average. The gym will be completed in December, then all buildings on campus will either be new or remodeled since 1972. Emmet School continues to provide an after school day care program for benefit of working parents. The day care program stays open util 6:00 p.m. daily for a nominal fee. Patrons were told that Emmet School's enrollment has increased 44% since 1990, and that the school is in compliance with all state standards.
