CLASSY MOMENTS

Published Wednesday, September 17, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

This has been a week of testing for our students at GMS. The Stanford 9 Test started Tuesday and will be completed Thursday. Not only will the students be glad when it is over, but the teachers will also. It will be nice to get back on schedule. The test takes up the morning classes. It seems as though the students have been handling the situation extremely well.

Friday afternoon for about 25 minutes, the students who have not had to go to D-Hall all week are allowed to go outside for free time. This gives them an opportunity to visit and buy candy or cold drings, a time for friends to meet, as they are not all in the same classes, and it gives them something to look forward to. Hopefully, fewer students will be going to D-Hall this year as they are denied the free time if they were assigned. This is different from last year.

We are trying to impress the importance of assuming responsibilities to the students. With the change in the home work policy anf free time, hopefully they will take into consideration the importance of following the rules seriously.

Pep rally was a lot of fun last week. Several students asked to take part in a caramel apple eating contest, and to their surprise the caramel was flavored with onion. Needless to say there were no winners. We enjoy having the band attend pep rally, as that really gets our feet to tapping and hands clapping.

The assemblies, conducted by the GMS Student Council, will be held on the last Tuesday of each month. You are welcome to attend. These will begin at 1:15.

We are getting settled into our daily routines, as students have found their correct classes at the correct times. Requiring the students to bring their binders to each class has cut down on going back to lockers at unassigned times, thus reducing D-Hall greetings. Students who have not paid for these binders really need to get their $12.50 paid as soon as possible. Those who had their own binders need to get the $3 paid for their assignment planners.

Our new building is really being talked about, as we hope to be in a new facility next year. Several students are hoping this will come about, as for many it will have them attending all five buildings in our school system (elementary, old middle school, present building, new building and new high school building). They have really been busy thinking about all of those school days.

We are busy, but just remember, we appreciate your concern, your interst, and your support as we continue to make those classy moments at GMS.
