4-H NewsPublished Wednesday, August 25, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesFourteen Clark County 4-H members participated in the Arkansas 4-H O'Rama. A total of 750 youth spent July 28-30 in Fayetteville, on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Most of the 4-H'ers qualify at District O'Rama, then go on to the State O'Rama. There are about 50 different events a 4-H member may participate in. This year Clark County had two state winners. Kristen Mallett, a member of the Four Leaf Clover club, won the competitive activity of performing arts-popular dance, and Paul McMillan, a member of the Shining Stars 4-H Club, won the automotive activity. 4-H is the youth development program of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Ownership of all Nevada County Picayune content from the beginning of the newspaper, including predecessors, until May 2001 was contributed by the John and Betty Ragsdale family to the Prescott Community Freenet Association.
