Fish Fry Is Friday NightPublished Wednesday, October 1, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneA fish fry will be held this Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Prescott Elementary School. The fish fry is sponsored by the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) at Prescott High School. This will precede the Prescott-Nashville game Friday night. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children. All take-outs are $6 apiece. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any FBLA student or they can be bought at the door. This is a major fundraiser for the FBLA students. Proceeds go to help pay for the students' expenses at the state and national conventions. FBLA sponsors are Laura Ward, Kendra Haynie and Carie Maroon. Officers are Jarrod Yates, who is president of the local group and District IV state vice president; Laura Johnston, vice president in charge of publicity; Jessie Ward, vice president in charge of membership; Tamora Marlar, vice president in charge of fundraising; Al Johnston, vice president in charge of community service projects; Lindsay Franks, vice president in charge of partnership with business project; Jana Barfield, vice president of American enterprise project; Jarrod Miller, treasurer; and Tricia Thompson, secretary. The officers began the year with an officers' planning meeting on August 12 at Prescott High School. They planned the events the chapter will be sponsoring throughout this year. The chapter would like to make the community aware of the events that will be taking place in the near future. After the fish fry, the next event sponsored by the chapter will be the Arkansas Children's Hospital roadblock on October 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Second Street and Elm. Canisters will also be placed in local business from October 13 to October 27. If at least $250 is raised, the high school and city will be able to have their names placed on a brick of the Wellness Walkway at the hospital. All FBLA members will have an opportunity to attend the District IV fall leadership conference at Henderson State University on Wednesday, October 22. This conference offers students the chance to hear motivational speakers and learn more about FBLA. Five of the local chapter officers will be attending the national fall leadership conference in Virginia Beach, Va., November 13-17. Those attending this conference will have an opportunity to learn more about FBLA at the national level through informative workshops and electrifying speakers. These students will also be able to practice valuable networking skills. The officers attending will be accompanied by Mrs. Maroon, an advisor. This group will be traveling to Virginia Beach with other delegates from across the state by way of chartered bus. Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is not just for high school or college students. Any member of the community may join the professional division of FBLA-PBL. This division is for business professionals, community leaders, school faculty and administration, and former FBLA-PBL members. As a professional member, you will receive national mailings and a membership card. You will also be eligible for other benefits of the professional division. Professional members are encourage to be involved with all chapter activities at the local, state, and national level. Professional division annual membership dues are $23.
