Military NewsPublished Wednesday, October 1, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneArmy Pvt. Shaun A. VanHook has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson near Columbia, S.C. During the eight weeks of training, the soldiers will study the army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, army history and traditions, and special training in human relations. VanHook is the son of Willie M. VanHook and James H. VanHook of Prescott. He is a 1997 graduate of Prescott High School. The following members of the Arkansas National Guard are recent promotions they have received: Aaron L. Hawthorne of Prescott was promoted to Private 2. Hiram C. Latin of Prescott was promoted to Private 2. Billy D. Hamilton of Prescott was promoted to Private First Class. Mae E. McKinnon of Prescott was promoted to Private First Class. Joe D. Rocole of Prescott was promoted to Private First Class. Julie A. Huntley of Prescott was promoted to Sergeant. William A. Hubbard of Prescott was promoted to Sergeant First Class. Willie A. Christopher of Rosston was promoted to Specialist. Quentin J. Flowers of Waldo was promoted to Private First Class. Clarence R. Curtis of Waldo was promoted to Private First Class.
