A man charged with theft by receiving last year had the charges dropped in circuit court last week.

According to records, James Birdsong, 31, of Prescott, was charged in August, 1996, in connection with the burglary of the Thomas Jester residence. Property reportedly belonging to Jester was allegedly found in Birdsong's possession at the time.

However, the case was nol prossed in the Nevada County Circuit Court on Wednesday, Sept. 24, by Eighth Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Danny Rodgers.

This was done because a key witness in the case could not be located and there were questions as to the fair market value of the property recovered.

STAND STOLEN

An area deer camp was vandalized sometime between Sept. 18-23.

According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and Prescott Police Department, the True Blue Hunting Club, near Rosston, was vandalized, with one stand damaged and one stolen.

Westmoreland said the stolen stand was a platform-type with chains, wire cables that attached to a tree. It was valued at $125.

The stolen stand had a camouflage colored seat, with the body being green.

Members of the club are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Nevada County Sheriff's Office at 870-887-2616.

Westmoreland said this is the time of year when there are a lot of problems with deer camps being vandalized and having items stolen. He suggests the campers do what they can to improve the security of the camp and report any suspicious activity to the NCSO.
