Tornado sirens in Gurdon will be tested at noon every Wednesday, weather permitting.


Clark County Adult Education offers day classes Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and night classes Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. For more information, call 870-353-4555.


Gurdon Head Start is taking applications now for the 1999-2000 school year. Children must be three by September 15. Go by 410 East Main or call 353-6616. Open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.


The Oak Grove Community Church is having a singing this Saturday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited. Take your songs and instruments. There will be refreshments afterwards.


The Diamond Valley Chapter American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting and volunteer recognition with a barbecue Tuesday, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia. To make reservations call 870-246-2682.


The parenting education grant recently awarded to the Hours of Joy Child Care, 501 East Main, will provide parenting classes once a week at no charge to parents. For a schedule, parents can call 353-4672 or 353-4329. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, with first and third week of each month meeting at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., second and third meeting at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.


Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.


Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
