Annual Fire Prevention UnderwayPublished Wednesday, October 8, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThis week, October 5-11, is National Fire Prevention Week. The Fire Related Burn Prevention Program is developed community partnerships to promote fire safety and awareness in each and every community. Some important components of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign will focus on home escape, smoke detector usage and maintenance. Once a fire occurs, it's too late to start developing a plan. In order to take full advantage of the short time you have to safely escape, you need to already have a plan of action in place. Several things to keep in mind when developing an escape plan would be to know to know two ways out of each room, establish an outdoor location in front of your home, and memorize the emergency number of the local fire department. Always remember to test your smoke detector at least once a month. All smoke detectors have a test button which you push to check out the entire detector, including it's sensivity. Smoke detectors need no maintenance other than changing the batteries and an occasional dusting. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
