PHS Looks For Another Conference Win At DeQueen (cont)Published Wednesday, October 8, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayunearris took the Nashville kick at his 17 and returned it to the 41, giving the Wolves good field position to no avail. Prescott was facing long yardage again on fourth down. With Jernigan ready to punt, the snap went over his head. He manged to get control of the ball, but he was never able to run with it or kick it. Nashville took over on the Prescott 19. On fourth and nine, the Scrappers put a field goal between the uprights to take a commanding 29-6 lead. Once more the Wolves had to punt, and after making two first downs the Scrappers did likewise with Prescott starting a scoring drive from their own 19-yard line. Van Hook again got the first call and the first down, this time at his 32. He gained eight yards on the next play. Johnston missed a pass attempt for Morrow, but on third down Woodley gained six yards for the first down at the 46. Johnston went back for a pass on the next play, but he was met with an onslaught of Nashville players. He managed to escape and gained 11 yards in the process, getting the first down at the Nashville 43. Johnston then connected with Douglas Flenory for a big first down at the Nashville seven. On first and goal Johnston hit Flenory for the TD in the end zone. On a two-point attempt, he missed Fountain with a pass for the score to remain 29-12 with time running out. Prescott rushed for 114 yards the second half. Nashville rushed for 128. Johnston attempted six passes the last half, completing three for a net of 40 yards, including one touchdown. Nashville attempted five passes, completing two for 15 yards, including a TD. In all, Johnston attempted 10 passes, completing five for 95 yards. Nashville's quarterback attempted 17, completing six for 113 yards. Van Hook was Prescott's leading rusher with 137 yards. Those sacks agasint Johnston brought the total yardage down. The Curley Wolves were only penalized twice the second half for 10 yards, while the Scrappers were penalized five times for 45 yards. The Wolves lost another fumble for a total of three during the game. This week the Prescott Wolves will travel to De Queen to face a Leopard team that has a better record than Nashville. The Leopards, now 5-0, have a very good opportunity to become 7AA Conference champions. Prescott on the other hand has a very good chance to upset their plans. The Wolves have the ability. Now let's see if the determination is there. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
