PES Group Wins Ribbons For Flowers

Published Wednesday, October 8, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Early Intervention Program at Prescott Elementary school received three third-place ribbons at the Nevada County Fair. The ribbons were for flowers the group grows on the school grounds.

The premium money was donated to the school for bird seed for the school's feeders.

Students in the program had planted marigold seed to study spring and learn about plants and they had planted zinna seeds for the letter Zz.

Julie Ingram, school counselor, had invited the students to put marigold plants in the school garden to help protect the tomato plants, and it worked. The elementary school entered tomatoes in the county fair and the Southwest District Fair.

Zinnas were planted to help beautify the school.

The students learned a lot about seeds and what it takes for them to grow and how important they are to mankind and the Earth.

The returning preschoolers this year enjoyed seeing their flowers blooming.

The three third place ribbons will be put in the school in a special place. Marilyn Burks is the teacher and Teresia Craven, para professional, helps.
