Extension ServicePublished Wednesday, October 15, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesRed Springs EHC The question, "What one thing I like about myself?" was asked by Denise Ezell, program leader for October of the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club. Several answers were a good Christian, loving, kind, family taxi driver, help mother and others, and good homemaker, along discussing the program theme, `Setting a Gool and Achieveing it.' Ileta Brown and daughter, Martha Bearden, hosted the meeting October 9 with 21 members attending, including a new member, Dreena Nardrum. Jean Toland, president, presided over the business session. New officers were installed. They were Elizabeth Wilson vice president; Lorece Friemon, secretary and treasurer; and Mary McBride, reporter. A report of the County Council rally held at the DeGray Lodge was given, with the Red Springs Club having the most attendance and winning the 1997 County Club of the Year award. Community service projects were voted on. Projects include: sew turbans for cancer patients, have a CPR Class, and continue the project `apples for teachers,' to show our appreciation to our teachers and workers in the three Gurdon Schools for their dedicationf in teaching our children. The club voted to share a table with the band booster's booth during the Gurdon Forest Festival. Donations will be taken on a large basket of handmade items. Proceeds from this will help to sponsor our community projects. Denise Ezell won the door prize. Show and tell projects were shown at the meeting. In upcoming events, a 19-county district rally will be held November 6 at DeGray Lodge. A county Holiday Home Tour is scheduled for December 7. The meeting adjourned with the reading of Cherish Yourself. After potluck lunch served at noon, a workshop on constructing spool angels was given by teachers Elizabeth Wilson, Jean Toland and Betty Cook. Mattie Tally will host the November 13 meeting. - Mary McBride Whelen Springs EHC Whelen Springs Extension Homemakers Club will meet Thursday, October 16, at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of East Whelen Springs Baptist Church. This month's program is entitled, `Setting a Goal and Achieving It.' Refreshments will be served. Names of the secret pals for the past year will be revealed, and names will be drawn for secret pals for the new 1997- 98 year. This should be an interesting meeting to say the least. An invitation is extended to anyone who would like to come and see what goes on at an EHC meeting. For those who would like to join the Whelen Springs EHC bring a $1 for yearly membership dues and $2 for an EHC membership book that goes from October 1997 through September 1999.
