Character Ed BeginsPublished Wednesday, October 15, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon Primary School and Gurdon Middle School will begin a program with students and teachers on Monday, October 20, called Character Education. Character Education was first developed and used in the Allen School in Dayton, Ohio. It is now being used in many schools. Character Education has been shown to be effective in improving schoolwide discipline, attitudes, behavior and academic achievements. Character Education is used by highlighting one character trait word each week of the school year as the word of the week. The first character trait for Gurdon Primary and Middle Schools for the week of October 20-24 is loyalty. This word will be discussed in each classroom display throughout the school and at local business in town. Listen for the word of the week being announced on KIX radio station.
