Curley Wolves Slay Dragons; Must Win Over Panthers (cont)Published Wednesday, October 29, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayunethe first play moved it back to the 13. A long run by Sam Grayson ended at the 49 on the next play. A pass fell incomplete, a penalty against the Dragons moved the ball back five yards, then Grayson moved the ball one yard to his 45-yard line. Fisher then threw a pass for Snow, who was well defended by two defenders. It was almost picked off, but almost doesn't count. Before the ball could hit the ground Payne came dashing by and, never slowing down, took the ball at chest height and in for the TD. Once more the two-point attempt failed to leave the score at 22-12. For the fans who have missed the last few ball games, and there have been a lot, you have missed seeing an improved Curley Wolf team. Although the game against Junction City wasn't up to par, each player did his best. Just as important, you have missed a good halftime show by the band. Superior ratings in several different catagories at every contest it has participated, and certainly superior during halftime, the band is so much improved over a few years ago. It would be worth your drive to Fouke to see it, if you don't want to see the Curley Wolves play. Of course the Curley Wolves need your support in this most crucial ballgame.
