Nine members of the Phi Beta Lambda chapter at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia recently attended the Arkansas Fall Leadership Confernece in Hot Springs.

This conference provided members with the opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills and learn more about participating in March of Dimes and Arkansas Children's Hospital projects.

During the conference, Amy Ramsey was elected as the 1997-98 state vice president for Region IV. Ramsey, a senior accounting major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ramsey of Smackover. As vice president, Ramsey will be responsible for coordinating activities and communications for PBL chapters in the southwest part of Arkansas. Marianne Woodard served as Ramsey's campaign manager at the conference. Woodard, a senior accounting major, lives in Magnolia. Woodard is married to Michael Woodard of Magnolia.

Jeremy Carter and Traci Hughes were selected to represent the state of Akansas in the "Battle of the States" competition at the upcoming National Fall Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach, Va.

Carter, a senior marketing and management major, is currently serving as Arkansas PBL state president. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Carter of Junction City.

Hughes, a junior accounting and financial planning major, is the Arkansas PBL state parliamentarian. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hughes of Prescott.

Four representatives from Phi Beta Lambda at SAU presented workshops at the fall confernece. Dr. Terrye Todd, chapter advisor, presented a workshop on Effective Report Writing. Arkansas PBL officers Carter, Hughes and Don Sherman presented workshops on Effective Leadership.

Sherman, an accounting major from McNeil, is the outgoing PBL vice president for Region IV and president of the SAU-PBL chapter. Sherman is the son of Mrs. Teresa Sherman of McNeil.

Serving as local chapter voting delegates at the confernece were Woodard, Lance Howell and April Hall. Howell, a senior Computer Information Systems major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger of Crossett. Hall, a sophomore accounting major, is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. George Hall of Magnolia.
