Wanted: Christmas tree ornaments to be placed on the Nevada County tree at the state capital.

The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is asking local and area businesses and industries to donate Christmas tree ornaments, which are representative of what they do. These ornaments will then go on a tree in Little Rock as part of the Trees Across Arkansas program.

This program was established by Secretary of State Sharon Priest. Under the program, each county will have an eight-foot tall pine at the capital. The counties are required to come up with the decorations to adorn the trees.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said the state will place white lights on the trees, but the counties have to do the rest.

So Nevada County can do its part, Godwin said, the Chamber is asking business and industry to donate decorations representative of what they produce or sell.

The tree will be decorated Saturday, Dec. 6, with the lighting ceremony held at 6 p.m. that evening.

The decorating committee, composed of Godwin, Von Gordon, Piper Vandiver, Sydney DuCharme, Sandra Hildebrand, Billie McCain and Katherine Koger, will be more than happy to take the donated items. However, they are needed quickly as the deadline is Nov. 7.

Godwin said decorations will also be accepted from the churches schools in the county as well, if they want to participate.

The ornaments need to be between two and six inches each. Those making the donations can give two or three per company, business, church or school.

"We're encouraging everyone to participate," Godwin said. "If the businesses are busy and want to make a donation, the Chamber will help."

For those interested in participating in the Trees Across Arkansas decorating program, they can call the Chamber at 887-2101.
