Allen IS OBU Queen

Forty Ouachita Baptist University students - including Cassidy Allen of Gurdon - are competing for the 1997 OBU Homecoming Queen title.

The winner and her court will be announced during pre-game activities on Saturday, November 8, at A.U. Williams Field in Arkadelphia. The 1:30 p.m. coronation will precede a Lone Star Conference football game between the OBU Tigers and the Harding University Bison.

The new queen will be crowned by Dr. Ben Elrod, president of Ouachita, and Erin Crumley, the 1996 queen, a senior elementary education major from Denver, Colo. Also assisting in the presidentation will be Ouachita Student Senate President Aaron Black, a senior political science major from Damascus.

The contestants, who were nominated by campus clubs, classes and organizations, were presented to the Ouachita student body during the weekly chapel convocation on Tuesday, November 4, in Jones Performing Arts Center.

At the conclusion of the chapel, Ouachita students cast their ballots with the results not to be announced until the pre-game ceremonies on Saturday.

Allen is an 18-year-old freshman communications major. She is sponsored by Daniel Residence Hall.

Her parents are Kenny and Christy Allen of 242 Airport Road in Gurdon.
