Celebration Of Dance Is This Friday At HSUPublished Wednesday, November 5, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesA special dance company performance directed by Jennifer Maddox will be offered in conjunction with the Arkansas Celebration of the Performing Arts. Sponsored by the Henderson State University Foundation, "A Celebration of Dance" featuring past and present members of the Henderson State University Dance Company, will perform at the Hot Springs Youth Center on Friday, November 7, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for all youth, schools, dance students, art students, music students, etc. The company will preform in mini-rehearsal and then teach a special class to all in attendance. This year's performance will feature premiere works of art commissioned and choreographed expressly for this year's Arkansas Celebration of the Performing Arts Dance Program as well as dance performed simutaneoulsy with live poetry, live music, impromtu performances, concurrent paint and dance art form. Jennifer Maddox has been commissioned to choreography many premiere works for this year's Celebration Dance. A guest performance by Joe Terry, who recently moved his peforming arts studio to Hot Springs, is also included. He has also choreography opera and musical threatre performances. Shirlene Gills of Gurdon has also been commissioned to choreograph a new piece for this year's event as well as redirect the 1991 "Expectations" performance that was presented at the American College Dance Festival at Texas Women's Univerity in 1991. Gills was a member of the Henderson State University Dance Company for six years and has a bachelor of science in education with an art emphasis.
