PHS Travels To Beebe Friday For Playoff ActionPublished Wednesday, November 12, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott Curley Wolves will be traveling to Beebe Friday night to play the Badgers in the first round of the state football playoffs. Beebe is ranked fifth in the state in Class AA, behind Osceola, Fordyce, Nashville and Ozark. For the past several years the 7AA Conference has had more than one team in the top five and this year is no exception. Fordyce and Nashville are both top teams. At least Fordyce may see a lot of action. Nashville has had a lot of close call this year from its opponents. Prescott won a spot in the play-offs after defeating the Fouke Panthers October 30. The Curley Wolves finished the regular season with three wins and three losses in the conference. This record put them in fourth place in the conference, just behind De Queen, which is in third place. Should the Curley Wolves win Friday, they will play the winner of the Brinkley-Star City game the following week -- away. Prescott could be the visiting team in every game it plays in pro season, unless the Curley Wolves should happen to meet another team with the same record or worse. Fordyce will host Gravette this week and will be the home team in most, if not all, play-off games. Nashville is also a host team this week, playing Gentry. It could also be a home team more than once. De Queen will be traveling to Vilonia as a visitor the first round, but the Leopards could turn into a home team with enough victories. What the Curley Wolves need this week is a good following. Beebe is not that far from Prescott (at least not as far as Osceola), and a four- lane road welcomes the traveler all the way north. Fans don't need to forget the award-winning PHS band. They will be performing at halftime, and so far this year they have our-performed the other bands they have come up against. Certainly the Prescott followers do not need to think that the Curley Wolves are down and out simply because of their record. On the contrary, several games could have come out differently with just an extra surge and a little luck. So it is conceivable that a second week could be in the making for the Wolves. That's the reason fans should not be planning to stay at home. There were a lot of fans in Fordyce Friday and there should be this week as well.
