From GMSPublished Wednesday, November 12, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesAt times it seems difficult to really let you know what we are doing at GMS, but feel confident that we are busy teaching and learning something each day. Thursday was a special day for several students, as about 30 minutes free time was granted to those who had not been in D-Hall during the first nine weeks period. For those who had, they had to stay in class. It would be wonderful if D-Hall was not needed, but, unfortunately, it is necessary to have a form of punishment for the often times little things that students will or will not do, as the handbook states. After a #"tour of duty" of D-Hall, our hope is that a lesson has been learned and we won't have repeaters. A short visit with Mrs. Williams, retired and loving it, was so reassuring. She said she looks forward to reading our article `Classy Moments' each week, as she finds out what is going on at school. It is difficult without her and she will always have a special place in our hearts at GMS. Mrs. Williams, come for a visit, and if it will make you feel better, you can bring a cake! If you bring a cake, please make sure that Mrs. Clingin gets a big slice, as usually she finds any goody container empty by the time she gets to it. Popcorn! Popcorn! The students are enjoying being able to purchase popcorn from the GMS Student Council. It seems as though it is just what the Doctor ordered. We had an interesting speaker talking about `Gang Violence.' He explained how one gang got started, as he was a member of it. After telling of some terrible experiences, he answered several questions asked by students. Since the junior high football season has come to a close, we do not have pep rallies on Thursdays. We do want to thank Mrs. Green and the cheerleaders for excellent performances for us each week. We know it took hours of work and practice for them and we just say thanks. We look forward to another day, week, and a visit from you. We appreciate your support as we continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS.
