More Fans Needed As PHS Looks For Win Number 2 In Class AA Playoffs

Published Wednesday, November 19, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

Somebody was highly dis-appointed last Friday night at Beebe, and it wasn't the Prescott players and fans.

The Curley Wolves came out after the Badgers and sent them scurrying back to their hole. It's not often you see this.

In one of the best performances on the field this season, the Curley Wolves eliminated the Badgers in the first round of the state play-offs Friday, 54-18.

The Curley Wolves dominated the field, offensively and defensively, against the higher ranked Beebe team. Thanks to the overwhelming win, Prescott is now ranked ninth in the state paper.

The big win was not a fluke. The Wolves worked each play just like it had been rehearsed all year in the other games. Everything just fell into place.

A win this big shouldn't give the players the big headCit must not. This could have played a part in the Badgers' loss. After all, who were the Curley Wolves? They were the fourth place team from the 7

AA Conference and they didn't take them lightly.

Now Prescott must not take the Star City Bulldogs lightly. The conference in southeastern Arkan-sas is tougher than the one Beebe plays in.

Star City, though not a big winner, could easily be compared to teams on Prescott's schedule. The Bulldogs consistantly have to play a rough scheduleCDeWitt, McGehee, Dollarway, etc.

The Curley Wolves have come a long way since their first game at the beginning of school. Their confidence is there; they have the poise; but most importantly, they have the desire and determination to win. And that's the key to successful program.

So, can the lowly fourth place team from the 7AA Conference continue in the play-offs? As long as they play as smart as they did last week.

A hard-hitting line will cause the mistakes, and a player with his eyes open will find the loose football rolling around on the ground. The Big D can make it happen.

Offensively, Coach David Bennet sent in the right plays at the right time. The execution of them were superb and points were put on the scoreboard. It was sweet success.

The other ingredient needed at Star City is followers. A fairly large crowd went to Beebe, but not near enough for such good roads. The trip to Star City does not have the good roads, but it should be well worth the trip.

Not only did the Curley Wolves win on the field, but the Prescott band did too. You can depend on Jonathan Kelly having an excellent halftime performance. They won hands down against the Beebe band.
