'Tis the season for giving and sharing.

There are those in our own community who will, however, be going without food during this holiday season.

Because of this, Kelle Bair, admissions director of Beverly Health and Rehabilitation in Prescott, along with the Nevada County Ambulance Service and the Nevada County Pageant Program, are working to provide food for three to five needy families in the area this Thanksgiving.

Bair said food boxes have been placed at Piggly Wiggly, in all Prescott schools, a bank and at the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

Non-perishable goods are being sought during this food drive. This means canned goods, rice, dry beans and the like.

The deadline for making donations will be Tuesday, Nov. 25. At that time, Bair said, the food will be gathered, made into baskets and delivered to the homes.

Anyone wishing to make donations can do so by going to the aforementioned places, or by calling Bair at 887-6639.

"We need people to respond and help," she said. "There will be people who won't eat this holiday season."

Once the Thanksgiving food drive ends, she said, another will begin for Christmas. Hopefully, more families will be able to be helped for the Christmas drive.

Additionally, Bair said, a toy drive will be instituted to make sure the area's needy children have a good Christmas as well.
