Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, August 25, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune The hot, dry weather continues. I've seen a few church signs reminding everyone to pray for rain. Might not be a bad idea. I stopped complaining about the heat when I saw the news story about that 89-year-old women who is walking across the country making ten miles a day. Kay Sellers traveled to Galveston, Texas, a few days ago to visit her brother who is in the hospital there. Frankie Nelson stopped by last weekend to visit his parents, Claudis and Oleta Nelson. He is a cross-country truck driver and usually comes by when he is in this area. I know the food his mother serves beats what he gets at the truck stop restaurants. A potluck lunch was served at the Church of Christ last Sunday after services. A good crowd was present and there was plenty of good food. Several people have seen a nice buck deer in Bluff City the last few days and some have already counted his points. We watched him for several minutes the other day as he grazed alongside busy Highway 24. He seemed to be unconcerned for his safety, but I expect he will not be as visible when deer season gets here. The patient said to the doctor, "I didn't come here to be told I'm burning the candle at both ends. I came for more wax." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
