One Race Is Contested In Prescott

There will be one contested school board race in Nevada County for the September school elections.

This will be in Prescott for the seat in zone 1. Marisa Tidwell and Patricia Ann Blake have both filed petitions for this post.

Otherwise all school board races across Nevada County have only one candidate seeking office.

Jeff Haynes is running unopposed for zone three in the Prescott district.

Prescott's district is also the only one in the county seeking a millage increase.

This increase is to help the district renovate current school facilities and to build a new high school gymnasium.

Some of the other projects the district has in mind include re-roofing Prescott Elementary and renovating the Prescott Middle School gym.

The district is asking for a 3.0 mill increase for a 25-year period to pay off the debt structure for the proposed improvements.

Should the issue pass, the millage will be raised to 32.1 mill.

Elsewhere in Nevada County, two seats on the Nevada School Board will be open, with Mack Bridges running in zone 5, the old Willisville district, and James Tomlin seeking the seat in zone 3, the old Cale district.

The Nevada District is not seeking a millage increase at this election.

In Emmet, Glenda Fulton, zone 1, and Michael Hight, zone 4, are seeking reelection to the board.

While a millage issue is on the ballot in Emmet, it does not reflect an increase in the millage rate.

Each year, districts in Arkansas must pass school millages, whether an increase is sought or not.

The election will be held September 21.

According to Davis Benton, chairman of the Nevada County Election Commission, early voting for the school elections begins Sept. 6.

Those going to the polls to cast their ballots will be going to the Emmet School and Nevada High School for those elections, while the elections in Prescott will be moved from Prescott High School to the Nevada County Courthouse.
