City Docorated For Holidays

Downtown Gurdon looks much brighter these nights.

This is because money was raised to purchase Christmas decorations to light up the city?s night hours.

According to Tambra Smith, Gurdon recorder/treasurer, some $820 was raised in a 24-hour period to purchase 11,000 Christmas lights and several metal decorations of holiday cheer.

Smith said the money for the lights was donated by local business and industry, with no city money being involved in the project whatsoever.

Members of the South Clark County 4-H Club helped put decorations up along Front Street by the railroad tracks.

In addition, the city had a 25-foot cedar tree donated by Mr. and Mrs. Otis McGlothlin. The tree came out of their front yard.

The tree has also been decorated and adorns the lot across from the Hoo Hoo museum on Main Street. Each evening as the sun sinks below the horizon, the displays are lit up to help brighten Gurdon during this Christmas season.

Smith said anyone interested in donating to the project can do so, with the money to be used to purchase more decorations for next Christmas.
