Fair To Close With RodeoBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 25, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Get ready to head 'em up and move 'em out as it's time for the Little Britches Rodeo once again. This event will be the finale of the Nevada County Fair again this year. It will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. Those wranglers, both male and female, 18 and under are eligible to enter. The events include a calf flag race which will have two divisions, one for those six and under and the other for children seven to 12. There will also be two divisions for the boys calf tying event: for contestants 14 and under and those 15-18. Calf riding for boys is open to cowboys ages 8-10. The barrel racing contest will have two categories, first for those 13 and under and the other for 14-18. The barrel pickup, chute dogging and hide slide are for anyone 18 and under who wants to get involved. One of the more popular events returns, as mutton busting will again take the first 30 to enter, who are aged seven and under. The mutton busting event is almost as entertaining as a greased pig contest. The girls goat tying event will be broken down into two categories, for those 13 and under and 14-18. This year will also feature a steer riding event. There will be two classes, one for cowpokes 11-14 and the other for those 15-18. All around belt buckles will be awarded to the high point winners in the boys and girls divisions. Registration for these events will be at the fairgrounds Saturday, Sept. 4, from noon until 4 p.m. Registration will also be on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents must enter, pay and sign a release to allow their child or children to participate in the rodeo when they register them. Entry fees will be $10 for all events except flag racers. The entry fee for calf flag racing will be $2. With the exception of the mutton busting and flag race events, all events will be limited to the first 15 who enter. Mutton busting will have a maximum of 30 entrants, and there is no limit on those entering the calf flag race. Contestants must be at the arena no later than 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. The entry fee may be forfeited if a contestant's name is called and they fail to answer the call. Entry fees are non-refundable. Once again, the Little Britches Rodeo is sponsored by the Prescott FFA Alumni Association. Admission to this event will be $3 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. The rodeo is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
