College NewsPublished Wednesday, December 10, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneTwenty-seven students at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia were recognized as national outstanding leaders and chosen to be included in the 1998 edition of Who's Who Students in American Universities and Colleges. Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurriclar activities and potential for continued success. The 27 SAU students join an elite group of students selected from more than 1,900 instututions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934. SAU students from Prescott named this year were Katie Gordon, a junior accounting major; Traci Leigh Hughes, a junior business administration major; and Willie Heath Miller, a junior health, kinesiology and recreation major. Ownership of all Nevada County Picayune content from the beginning of the newspaper, including predecessors, until May 2001 was contributed by the John and Betty Ragsdale family to the Prescott Community Freenet Association.
