Holiday Winners NamedBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 10, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott residents were thrilled with the majesty of the first annual Christmas Parade Thursday, Dec. 4. The parade began near the old office of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, heading down Main Street and ending at the Nevada County courthouse where Christmas on the Square was held. Those with floats in the parade had more than pride at stake as there was also prize money riding on their entries. The big winner, though, was the float entered by Chad Cornelius, featuring Santa and his reindeer, along with Little Miss Nevada County Brook Cornelius, and Miss Nevada County Jessie Ward. Second place was captured by the Prescott Middle School's Art II class entry, while the First Baptist Church Children's Department finished in third place. However, there were many more floats to bedazzle those gathered along Main Street. And, there were other contests as well for parade entries. Katie Wilson was selected for having the best decorated all terrain vehicle, while Sidney Beth Ross was told she had the best decorated bicycle. Lisa McClure showe up with her cocker spaniel dressed as Santa Claus and took $10 home for having the best decorated animal in the parade. In the 2-4 year old division of the best Christmas costume contest, Shelly Beth Glass was the winner, while Kaylee Fincher was next. The 5-7 bracket was won by Alexis Muldrow, while Hanna McLelland was second and Keaton Fincher third. Winners for the best decorated windows, along with the Parade of Home winners were also announced at the Christmas on the Square. Betty's Floral captured the window contest, while Greg and Shelly Wilson were named as having the best lighted display in the city. Joan Barton had the best unlighted Christmas display in Prescott, while James and Sheila Cannon were named as having the best theme. For the county, William Mullins garnered the best lighted display, with Dudley Stockton's efforts in the Suckles Lake area being the top unlighted display. Judy Carlton of Rosston was named as the best theme. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
