Lions Annual Auction Set For Thursday and Friday Nights

Bargain hunters with big hearts will be more than welcome at the 24th Annual Prescott Lions Club Auction.

The auction will be held Thursday and Friday at the Nevada County Courthouse, as the Lions work to raise money to help purchase Christmas baskets for the area's needy, sponsor a Little League baseball team and help buy glasses for children and older people who can't afford them. The funds raised will also go to help support the Lions World Services for the Blind.

Over the past 12 months, the Lion's community service activities have included donating $250 to the Prescott Baseball Association; 1,000 for a scholarship to a Nevada senior; 500 college scholarship to another high school senior; 1,000 to the LWSB; 500 to Mid-South Sight; 500 to the Emmet school to help rebuild its burned gym; 100 to the Future Farmers of America Charitable Foundation; 300 to help the Prescott High School buy new uniforms; 300 for a talking dictionary for a legally blind student; 600 to the Prescott school Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) for computer software; 1,000 to Operation Breadbasket; packed food baskets for both local nursing homes and needy families; 540 to the Prescott Community Freenet Association ; sponsoring a community circus; 200 to Nevada schools for a Presidential Classroom; 250 to sponsor a local troop for the Boy Scouts of America; 270 to the Prescott Athletic Booster Club; operated a concession stand at the Chicken and Egg Festival and Nevada County Fair; purchased eye exams and glasses for eight needy students; manned the gates at the Nevada County Fair; 1,000 to buy chairs for the Nevada County Fair; 250 for Leader Dogs for the Blind; 50 to Henry's Lights; 45 to the Prescott Middle School Sports Banquet; 2,195 for a computer scanner and Braille printer for the computer science trainees at LWSB; 350 for talking printers at LWSB; 200 to the family of a teen cancer patient for medical expenses; and another $200 to the family of a teen who attempted suicide for medical expenses.

The Lions Club Auction will be held from 6-10 p.m. both nights, or until everything donated has been auctioned off.
