GT Students Take A Field Trip To DeGray State ParkPublished Wednesday, December 23, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe third and fourth grade gifted and talented students from Prescott Elementary School recently attended a field trip to Lake Ouachita to spot bald eagles. They prepared for the trip by watching a special wildlife film about the habitats and requirements of local species with a focus on bald eagles. A park ranger, who guided the group, discussed the history of the lake, all the wildlife that depends on the lake, and the complex geology Lake Ouachita. The group rode a barge all over the lake and stopped for a picnic lunch on one of the islands. The students learned all about the lake, spotted two different bald eagles and learned how to skip rocks on the water. The students who attended were third graders Jonathan Barbaree, Kayli Birdsong, Garrett Crellin and Michael Crowder; and fourth graders Kayla Ammons, Samantha Wiley, Amanda Douglas, Ross Pilgreen, Colton McClure, Brody St. Clair, Zack Otwell, Brittany Cason, Jordan Schmitt and Andy Thompson. Parents who enjoyed the trip along with their children were Jim Ammons, Donna St. Clair, Frances McClure, Cindy Schmitt, Angie Barbaree, Kathy Thompson, Sandy Cason, Larry and Dana Otwell, Kristen Birdsong, Myla Crellin, Michelle Crowder and Laurie Pilgreen.
