Published Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Roger W. Thomas, 57, passed away last week while doing something he loved, playing golf.

Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 19, 1942, in Prescott and lived in Gurdon for almost 30 years before being transferred to Shreveport, La.

He was a retired purchasing administrator for Arkla after 30 loyal years of service. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Mr. Thomas was a devoted, faithful husband, an awesome dad, and an even greater grandfather. He was one of the best Sunday school superintendents and teachers in Arkansas and Louisiana, because of his exciting and Holy Spirit anointed object lessons. Roger won numerous awards and recognitions for outstanding service, and a very special award from former President Jimmy Carter and the American Red Cross for saving a man's life. Mr. Thomas was a quiet, humble man who had to be persuaded by his family to display his awards and plaques.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Smith Thomas; a daughter and son-in-law, Teressa and Gary Scott; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom Ross and Cindy Thomas and Jeffrey Don and Michell Thomas; grandchildren Joshua Scott, Trip and Tyler Todd, Jesse Thomas and Ross Sterling Thomas; two brothers, Albert Thomas and wife Joann and Robert R. Thomas and wife Sue; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Oct. 21, at Rose Heath Funeral Home in Shreveport, La.
