Helping Hands EHCPublished Wednesday, December 23, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Bluff City Helping Hands Extension Homemakers Club met December 12 at the Church of Christ for the Christmas party. It has been a year for all of the members to remember. The Lord has blessed this club in so many ways. We have so much to be thankful for. It is a privilege to be able to get together once a month to enjoy the fellowship of friends and neighbors. Every month all of the members learn new ideas that make life more interesting and enjoyable. Our thanks to Candace Carrie, Extension agent. All members have the latest information to help all of us live a more healthy life. There are many ways to improve our own health if we all take the time to think about the way we prepare the food we eat. A prayer of Thanksgiving was offered by Ruth Bumpus. There were 13 members present. Marguerite Tomlin, president, welcomed three visitors, Carrie, Shirley Purifoy and her son. We hope Shirley will be back with us soon. She has a new son to keep her busy now. Those on the service committee for the next three months are Linda Carman, Kay Nelson and Betty Lewis. Becky Davis resigned as vice resident. Her new job in Camden leaves her with very little time to spare. Linda Carman was appointed to take Becky's position. Thanks, Linda. Congratulations to Linda Carman on her prize winning, yard lighting and Christmas decorating. They are a sight to behold. The club thanks Oleta Nelson, Hazel Plyler, Marguerite Tomlin and Ruth Sullivan for the lovely tree and table decorations. They were beautiful. A trip to Camden December 15 was planned. Members toured the city to see the lights and decorations. Names were drawn for 1999 secret pals. A potluck meal was enjoyed by all. Christmas holidays bring out a lot of goodies just brimming with calories. Oh, well! We will diet next year. Next came the best part of the club's party. Excitement was building as members looked at the lovely tree with all the pretty packages with the names of all the secret pals on them. Each member hopes she has fooled her secret pal for the past year. May God bless everyone and happy holidays to all. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
