Nevada's basketball teams fell on hard times as the first semester of school came to a close.

The senior boys dropped a close one to Gurdon in league play recently, falling 58-56.

The Go-Devils, playing at home, opened with a 23-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, only to see the Blue Jays rally and fight to narrow the gap to 37-24 by halftime.

Nevada continued battling and whittling away at Gurdon's lead, cutting the margin to 51- 42 when the buzzer ended the third period of play.

Had there been a little more time in the final stanza, the Jays may have pulled the win out, but just weren't able to overcome the first eight minute stretch of the game.

Julius Gulley powered the Jays with 24 points on the night, while teammate Jason Yarbrough chipped in with a dozen more.

Gurdon was led by the trio of Rashun Hopson, Demond Beasley and Kevin Beasley, all with 14 points. Adrian Meeks made his contribution to the cause with 11.

From the line, Nevada shot well, but not enough as the Jays converted seven of eight.

Gurdon spent a good deal more time at the stripe, shooting 50 percent as they hit 17 of 34 free throws.

In the Genoa Tournament, the Jays lost a heartbreaker to the Bradley Bears 46-45.

The Jays led at the end of the first two quarters, 14-12 after one and 28-26 at the half, only to be tied by the Bears in the third at 39-39.

Keon Page paced Nevada with 13 points, while Gulley stroked the cords for eight.

Justin Larry and Greg Davis scored 20 each for Bradley.

Again the Jays did well from the charity stripe as the converted nine of 13.

The Bears went to the line more, but didn't shoot as well, going eight for 18.

Nevada's junior girls, tangling with Gurdon, fell 41-34.

The Lady Jays led 13-11 after one, but found themselves on the short end of a 22-21 halftime score.

At the end of three, Gurdon had pulled away 34-25.

Eric Loudermill scorched the nets for 22 for Nevada.

Sonja Beasley led Gurdon with 17, while Tonya Russey scored 13.

The Lady Jays were five of 15 from the line, with Gurdon shooting four of 15.
