Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe change in the weather took some by surprise, as many came to school without a jacket and were freezing (at least they thought they were). Before the day was over, we heard nothing else about being cold (could have been that they were so busy learning that they forgot about being cold). Parent teacher conferences were a big success. The faculty really appreciate the parents attending the conferences and discussing the progress and potential of the students. The seventh grade extended a welcome to a new student, James White, and hope that he will enjoy being part of Cabe Middle School. Memorize the Declaration of Independence? Never? You must be kidding. Tell us you are kidding. Those were some remarks heard by Ann Clingan when she assigned the eighth graders to be able to recite part of the Declaration of Independence. No, it is not the entire document. Confidence, where is that confidence? Without a doubt, it is believed that the students will be able to recite without any trouble, as they have plenty of time to prepare. The Beta Club is sponsoring a Halloween dance on Thursday, October 28, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Admission will be $2 in advance or $3 at the door. There will be concessions, costume contests, dance contests and much more. Red Ribbon Week kicked off Monday, October 25. Each day something different is planned to observed this week of emphasizing 'Say No To Drugs.' Thursday will be Hobo Day. Students can wear jeans or overalls, some may want to put patches on their clothes. Long tailed shirts hanging over the jeans will be allowed. Sack lunches will be the menu for the day. The cafeteria workers are making sack lunches for those who do not bring their lunch. Every student is to eat with another student. We are hoping that the weather will allow a picnic style of lunch. Thursday after lunch, the students will be in the gym and may enjoy various relay events and lots of surprises. The Red Chain will be broken and the name on the link that breaks will bring that student a prize. The money from the sale of links goes to the drug program to be used as needed. Melissa Franklin works hard to make the week a very special one to help us to emphasize that we 'Say No to Drugs.' Linda Bullard's son and family felt the earthquake that occurred in California a few days ago. The oldest grandson had to call Grandpa to ask him to come and get that 'monster' that was shaking his house. We were glad to hear that they were not hurt and there was no damage to their home. As we sign off for this time, thank you for your support as we continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
