Prescott's Curley Wolves went on a three-game tear before running into Fordyce and Fountain Lake.

The Wolves had managed to dispatch Bismarck, Nashville and Fouke before they had to make the trip to Fordyce where they met the Redbugs and were manhandled.

Friday, Jan. 30, the Wolves made the trip through Hot Springs to Fountain Lake, where they were dismissed by the Cobras 56-39.

For three quarters of the game, the Wolves were able to hang with the Cobras, but ran out of gas in the final eight minutes.

At the end of one, Prescott trailed 9-6, and were down a scant 22-20 at the break. Fountain Lake managed to widen the gap somewhat in the third quarter with a 35-28 score.

Tucker Baker led the Wolves with a dozen points, while Jason Morrow followed with 11.

Wendland paced Fountain Lake with a game-high 14.

The Wolves were seven of 10 from the charity stripe, while the Cobras netted 12 of 25 free throw attempts.

FORDYCE 103

Prescott's three-game win streak ended when the Wolves went to Fordyce and were thrashed by the Redbugs 103-54.

The Bugs jumped all over the Wolves in the first period with a 27-13 lead. This advantage was stretched to a 50-27 margin by halftime.

It got worse in the second half, much worse. By the end of three, Prescott was reeling 79-33.

Scott Hobbs paced Prescott with 12 points, while Calvon Flemons added 11.

Kevin Williams led all scorers with 18 for Fordyce.

The Wolves were 13 of 25 at the line, with Fordyce converting eight of 24.

FOUKE 35

In a game played at a snail's pace, the Wolves outlasted Fouke 45-35.

The Panthers did everything they could to slow the game down and possibly bore the crowd to sleep. At the end of one, the score was 8-5 Prescott, but ended up tied 12-12 at the half.

The Wolves pulled away in the third period, 24-17 and were able to pick up the pace in the final eight minutes for the win.

Hobbs again led the Wolves with 15 points, while the tandem of Heath Gammage and Morrow contributed 10 each.

Attaway led all scorers with 16.

The Wolves shot well from the stripe netting 15 of 18 attempts, while Fouke was six of seven at the line.

BISMARCK 42

Prescott's win streak began with a 13-point win against Bismarck as they posted a 55-42 win.

The Wolves had to come from behind for the victory as they trailed 15-6 in the opening frame and were down 19-18 at the half.

Prescott's offense picked up somewhat in the third period as the Wolves managed a 30-27 lead, blowing the game open in the final eight minutes.

Brian Woodley led the attack with 14, while Morrow fed the nets for 12.

Adam H. led the Lions with 17.

The Wolves netted 64 percent of their free throws, hitting 18 of 28. Bismarck was six of 11 from the line.

The Wolves now have a 4-16 overall record, but are 4-5 in 7AA action.

Should the Wolves win their next three games, they could end up tied for third in league play.

Currently, Fordyce is alone atop the division, followed by Fountain Lake. The rest of the positions are up for grabs.

But, Prescott Coach Matt McClure said the 1997-98 season hasn't been an easy one for the Wolves. Several players have been injured for extended periods of time, thereby limiting their playing and experience on the court.

McClure said the Wolves have talent inside, but lack experienced guards to get the ball to the post men.

Another problem, he said, is the team has a tendency of playing to the level of its competition, instead of playing its game night in and night out.

Being home the remainder of the season, along with hosting the district tournament, he said, is a blessing and should help the team.

WOLVERETTES 68

FOUNTAIN LAKE 36

The Wolverettes continued their winning ways by trouncing the Lady Cobras 68-36 in an unintentional thrashing.

Coach Bill Cossey said he didn't intend to run the score up, but the Lady Cobras played poorly in the second half.

Fountain Lake played well in the first period, but trailed 17-14 against the Wolverettes. Period two saw Prescott begin pulling away as the Wolverettes led 35-21 at intermission.

The bottom fell out in the third quarter as Prescott's senior girls pulled away by 27 with the score 52-25.

Traci Graham paced Prescott's slaughter with 20 points, while Stacy Stockton stroked the cords for 19. Andrea Cossey added another 15.

F. Johnson led the Lady Cobras with 15.

Cossey also dished out eight assists and pulled down seven boards. Graham had five assists as well. Stockton pulled down seven rebounds, but the Wolverette cleaning crew was led by Kamori Scott who had eight.

Prescott was 11 of 16 at the line, with Fountain Lake converting six of 12.

This win puts the Wolverette record at 18-4 overall and 8-1 in league play.
