Rex Dollar is the new county extension agent in Nevada County.

Dollar is a 1997 graduate of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, where he earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural business.

Being around agriculture is nothing new for this 22-year-old, who grew up on a farm in Pine Ridge, near Mena.

His duties with the extension service will be to work with the public on its gardening and farming needs, along with working with students in the 4-H Club program.

On the family farm, a cow-calf operation, Dollar worked with pullet houses as well as the other livestock.

He was a member of the Future Farmer's of America in high school, along with being a member of the 4-H Club. At SAU, he continued his affiliation with the FFA and worked on the college farm, while also being in the agriculture club.

In his off time, Dollar enjoys team roping, playing basketball, deer hunting and a little fishing.

"I love working with and around horses," he said. Dollar has two quarter horses he uses for his team roping activities and plans to bring them to Prescott once he's fully settled in.

As county agent, his plans are to develop the office and get several programs up and going.

But, he also has intentions of participating in area rodeos once he gets more familiar with the region.

At some point in the distant future, Dollar would like to return to the family farm that is once his parents retire but, as he said, this is a long time from now.

A community coffee will be held at the extension office from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13 to welcome Dollar to his new job and the area. This coffee is being sponsored by the Nevada County Extension Homemaker's Clubs and the EHC staff.
