Seminar Set

Texarkana College and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses-Texarkana Chapter and Area Health Education Center Southwest are sponsoring a seminar entitled 'Enhancing Critical Care Skills' on May 27 and 28.

Health care professionals including nurses, respiratory therapists and EMT's will benefit from these two workshops.

On May 27, twelve lead EKG interpretations will be discussed. The May 28 program will cover Assessment Topics: IV Therapy, Endocrine Emergencies, Breath and Heart Sounds, ABG Interpretation and Neurological Assessment.

Guest speaker will feature Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio RN, PhD, CEN from Staten Island, N.Y.

Owner of four businesses, she is an educational consultant, the president of Education Enterprise, a nursing seminar company; president of Power Publications, a nurse-owned publishing company; and the proprietor of A.D. Von Publishers, Inc., the publisher of the refereed quarterly journal, REVOLUTION-The Journal of Nurse Empowerment.

She is also president of the National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA).

She has written extensively on critical care topics in journals such as Nursing, RN, AJN and has authored, co-authored and edited a total of 11 books, such as Critical Care Examination Review, Emergency Nursing Examination Review, 12 Lead EKG STAT! And 25 Stupid Things Nurses Do To Self Destruct by Power Publication.

She is also the co-editor of Nurse Test, published by Springhouse Corporation.

Dr. Vonfrolio was the organizer of the Nurses March on Washing-ton, D.C., in March of 1995 and in May of 1996 and has appeared on Good Morning America and Niteline with Ted Koppel.
