Locals To Graduate At SAUPublished Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneOn Friday, May 15, Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia will bestow degrees to 348 students in spring commencement exercises. The ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The guest speaker will be Dr. Charles Dunn, president of Henderson State University and a 1967 graduate of SAU. He subsequently earned a Masters of Arts degree in government from the University of North Texas and accepted an appointment in 1969 as an instructor of political science at the University of Arkansas in Monticello. After two years as an instructor, Dunn attended Southern Illinois University, earning his Ph.D in political science in 1973. Dunn became an associate professor political science at the University of Central Arkansas in 1975. In 1982, he was appointed director of governmental relations at UCA. That role led to the development of a very successful approach to winning support from lawmakers. It was this experience which led to Dunn's current position as president of Henderson State. Students scheduled to graduate including the following: From Willisville, Brent Ashley Waters, with a B.B.A. in business administration-finance. From Prescott, James Chad Cummings with a B.S. in agri-culture business; Cory Brendan Dice, with a B.S. in agriculture business; Donna Lee Hamilton, with an A.S. in nursing; Sonnet Necia Kopecky, with a B.A. in mass media communication-broadcasting; Vicki Lynelle Marbury, with an A.S. in nursing; Thomas Brandon McLelland, with a B.S. in agriculture business; Michael Shane Meador, with a B.S. in agriculture business; Michael Leon Rodgers with an A.S. in nursing and Patrick Duane Steed, with a B.B.A. in business administration-finance. From Rosston, Rita M. Dorsey, with an A.S. in nursing; Frederick Gamaliel Gulley, with a B.S. in recreation/community service; and Virgil Ryan McGough with an A.A.S. in computer information systems.
