Herbert W. KnightPublished Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneHerbert W. Knight, 83, of Bluff City died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Mr. Knight was a member of the Rocky Hill Methodist Church. He was staff sergeant in the 37th Infantry Buckeye Division and a World War II veteran. He was awarded the medal for Exemplary conduct in Battle and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also awarded two Bronze Stars for action in Manila. He was among the first troops to enter the Philippines capital. He served in the Fiji Islands, Guadalcanal and the Russell Islands. He was a veteran of the Georgia Campaign. Mr. Knight was also a charter member of the Bluff City City Council, the chief of the Bluff City Fire Department and a retired poultry farmer. Survivors include his wife, Margie Knight of Bluff City; two sons, Dulane Adams of Houston, Texas, and Robert Adams of Anchorage, Alaska; three daughters, Debbie Phillips of Bluff City, Rose Burroughs of Fayetteville, and Cathy Kieser of Daisy; one sister, Lucille Kirk of Bluff City; 11 grand- children; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 6, at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Bluff City Cemetery. Proctor Funeral Home of Camden was in charge of the arrangements.
